Celebrating Holi

As part of our topic 'Can a villain be good?', Y3 were finding out about the Holi Festival. After finding out how Hindu's celebrate Holi, we had lots of fun with gulal (the coloured powder used in Hindu celebrations).

Robots

We loved finding out and answering the question, 'Will Robots Take Over The World?'. During this topic, we had great fun making a robot with levers and linkages.

Stone Age Day

We had a fantastic day finding out about the Stone Age. We dissected Stone Age 'poo' and discovered that they ate leaves, berries, seeds and fish. We also made our own paint for cave painting, made our own salt dough for jewellery and made weapons. The children all looked amazing!

Angels

As part of our Christmas unit of work about angels. Year 3 designed and made their own angel Christmas tree decoration. They learned a range of different stitches and used these stitches to join different fabrics.

Dragon Eyes

We have loved creating dragon eyes this half term. We used a range of different media: pastels, water colours, charcoals and clay.

SCARF

Y3 had a visitor today. They were finding out more about SCARF (safety, caring, achievement, resilience and friendship). They met Harold who is the scarf mascot and found out lots about how their bodies work.

Potions

Year 3 made potions as part of their unit of work focusing on 'The Wonderful World of Worlds'. We read George's Marvellous Medicine and created some of our own potions. It was very messy but lots of fun.

Year 3 Archives

2020-2021

29/3/2021 - We ended the term with a week of outdoor learning. The children used their scientific enquiries and problems solving strategies to work through the daily tasks. We had great fun and uncovered some secret talents too.

22/2/2021 - Year 3's new topic 'Why Save The Rainforests?' saw them learning all about the Rainforests around the world and the animals whose habits are there. We had great fun learning about the different layers and the features each layer had. Their rainforest dioramas were incredible!

5/2/2021 - Children's Mental Health Week - Dress Happy. The Year 3 teachers all came to school today wearing something that makes them feel happy.

29/1/2021 - We've been exploring fractions in maths, at home the children have used lego to find the fraction of amounts.

22/1/2021 - Some of the excellent home learning that has been going on this week. Children had to create their own Stone Age scene using any resources they wanted to.

4/12/2020 - To finish our unit on persuasive writing Year 3 held a mock court in which they persuaded the judge whether the Big Bad Wolf was innocent or guilty. The children had some very strong arguments and the verdict was - GUILTY!

11/11/2020 - Year 3 have been learning about the importance of Remembrance Day this week and have painted very special poppy pebbles along with all the classes in school. They all looked brilliant outside our new Mess building.

6/11/2020 - This week we made the most of the lovely autumnal weather and got outside to do some maths. We have been looking at 2D and 3D shapes and ended the week looking for symmetry in nature. The children found lots of natural examples around the school and created some of their own!

This half term, we have been working with a specialist PE teacher.  Mrs Serridge has been helping the children to improve their fitness levels by exploring a range of multiskills.  Please see her newsletter for more information.
